New LCD Panel Contrast Ratio
OLED panel is one of the biggest features of the perfect black level, which is also considered to determine the quality of one of the most important factors. Because you want to show excellent contrast, first have to have a black bottom "canvas." And because the OLED panel can be individually controlled pixel switch, so even if it is less than the brightness of the LCD level, it can show pure black to achieve high contrast.
In contrast, LCD panel is dependent on the ultimate brightness of LED backlight to achieve high contrast ratio. Because its pixels can not completely obscure the light emitted from the rear, and therefore can not show a pure black. This is why LCD TVs have a halo effect when displaying bright objects in a dark background.
But TV manufacturers have not tried to solve this problem, but instead to develop even better than the OLED to the new technology, such as Samsung QDED-based QDED panel technology.
But now, Matsushita claims to have developed a technology that fits the current LCD panel, providing the perfect black level while achieving the maximum brightness of 1,000 nits.
According to the introduction, this new IPS LCD panel in the conventional display unit behind the addition of a new optical modulation layer, can filter out the light from the backlight, so as an additional switch to separate control of pixels.
When combined with high-density backlighting, this technology offers 600 times the contrast of conventional LCD panels, while eliminating the problems of light leakage, halo and black flooding. And compared to other types of LCD panels, IPS can also bring a wider viewing angle.
While today's LCD televisions are already using local dimming to control individual areas of the screen, Panasonic's pixel-by-pixel control offers a better viewing experience. For the time being, Panasonic will be the first application of this technology in the commercial areas, such as live television, video production, medical display and car display, but consumer TV for the application of this technology will be followed.
If the actual effect of this technology in line with Panasonic's publicity, it will likely shake the entire TV market. At present, the cost of OLED panels is still high, mass production is also difficult, and QLED TV will need new production equipment and processes. Traditional LCD panel production equipment can be used to produce this new type of panel, which also maintains the lower production costs, without the need for additional adjustment of production equipment.
